A REL’s high-level input carries a full-range, low-level signal tapped straight from your amplifier’s speaker terminals. It’s a longer run than most people expect, and everything that happens to the signal along the way is decided by the conductor and the dielectric around it. So that’s where we put the engineering.
The conductors are slow-drawn, USA-produced Continuous Crystal™ Long Grain Copper — single crystals that extend far beyond the grain boundaries of ordinary copper. Each one is plated with a 10% layer of 99.999% pure silver, finished to the mirror-smooth surface DH Labs developed with outside metallurgists specifically to avoid the brightness of typical silver-plated copper. Around the conductors sits a PTFE Teflon copolymer dielectric. We chose it partly for a manufacturing reason most cable makers don’t talk about. It extrudes at a lower temperature, which means less thermal stress on the copper as the cable is built, so the grain structure we drew so carefully survives intact into the finished cable.
None of that is exotic for the sake of it. It’s the same materials science DH Labs has shipped to Grammy-winning mastering studios and 25-plus speaker and electronics manufacturers since 1992, applied to the connection your subwoofer actually uses.
